Happiness Is a Choice

?Everything can be taken from a man but one thing, the last and the greatest of human freedoms, to choose one?s attitude in any given set of circumstance, to choose one?s own way of life.?

Very encouraging words, indeed, especially if you?ll learn that they came from Victor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor who later on became an influential neurologist and psychiatrist.

Many of us think that we need to wait or search for something, or even someone, before we can truly be happy. And it is ironic that it is in this searching and waiting that we slip into further loneliness, sadness, or even depression.

We then begin to blame other people, the situation we are in, and many other things around us for our unhappiness.

But it is our choice to have a positive or a negative attitude. It is our choice to do something meaningful in our lives or to wallow in self-pity. Happiness is a choice.

It is true, though, that this is easier said than done ? especially with all the disasters, crimes, and other unfortunate situations happening everyday. But if you?re not going to try, at least, how will you know if you can do it or not?

If you need a spark to launch your decision to happiness, here?s a Youtube video on positive attitude that?s packed with a lot of laughs and inspiration. Motivational speaker Sam Glenn, known for his hilarious approach, talked about literally picking himself up (and a couple of other people) after a fall. I?m pretty sure he has convinced his audience that they should choose happiness even in the most unfavorable and embarrassing situations.
