The revamped ICPAS site will feature a dynamic new look, a new and improved ?user-friendly? navigational system, and new technology and tools to allow visitors access to a plethora of valuable information.

The redesigned Web site will include many exciting services and sections, including:

Personalization. Visitors to the upgraded ICPAS site who are members of the Illinois CPA Society are asked to register the first time they enter. Thereafter, the site will recognize them at every visit!

Searchable Member-to-Member Directory. This new online directory allows ICPAS members to search the society?s membership by first name, last name, firm/company name, or the city of their firm/company. Members also can review their current information and send changes directly from the ICPAS Web site.

Current World and Business News. The NEW Illinois CPA Society/Planet Direct co-branded Web page provides individuals with access to daily world and business news; weather updates; stock/market information, updates, online trading, etc.; and information on a variety of other subjects, including careers, health, family, leisure, travel, home & auto, and community affairs. In addition, visitors can create a personalized ICPAS/Planet Direct page that features their favorite links, saved searches, stock quotes and weather information.

ICPAS Discussion Forums. ICPAS members can communicate and exchange ideas and information with fellow members regarding the latest professional issues and topics. Members can post a new Discussion Forum topic, respond to previously posted messages, or simply gather information by reading messages from other members.

The Inside Line. Readers now will be able to share articles from The Inside Line with friends and colleagues by using the new e-mail feature included on all articles.

Redesigned ICPAS Web Site Offers New Services for Members

We brought you news of our Illinois CPA Society Web site ?design overhaul? in our September issue. Now learn about the new and improved features at the fingertips of each and every ICPAS member!

Discussion Forums ? The new ICPAS Discussion Forum allows you to communicate directly with your fellow members, regarding the latest issues and topics relevant to the different segments of the CPA profession. To kick-off the new Discussion Forum area, ICPAS has created three pilot discussion entries that examine issues relevant to tax, banks/savings & loans and business valuation. ICPAS members can use the new ICPAS Discussion Forum to post new topic entries, respond to previously posted messages or simply to gather information.

New Searchable Databases ? To make finding information easier, the new ICPAS site features several improved, searchable databases. The new online Member Directory allows you to look up ICPAS members by name, firm/company name or geographical location. (You?ll also be able to submit changes to your own contact information online.) The ICPAS Online NETWORK Directory gives you the opportunity to communicate directly with fellow members who have agreed to answer questions, provide information and offer professional input relevant to a variety of issues. Other improved, searchable databases include the online Jobs Listings, CPE catalog, and calendar of events and meetings.

Online Registration and Payment for ICPAS CPE Courses ? Individuals now can register and pay for ICPAS educational conferences, programs, seminars, etc., online.

News and Information ? ICPAS members can access up-to-the-minute world and business news by visiting the new Illinois CPA Society/Planet Direct co-branded page. This page also offers a personalization feature, and provides visitors with updated stock and weather information. In addition, members can log onto the Society?s online publication The Inside Line for high-level professional news, information and articles from a variety of industry and Society sources.

?Voice Your Opinion? Polls ? You?ll find these new ?impromptu surveys? scattered throughout the ICPAS Web site in both the public and member areas. They allow visitors to offer their opinions on a wide range of issues and topics. (See the new ICPAS Web site Main Page and the Member Bulletin Board page for a few of the latest polls.)

Of course, ICPAS members still can take advantage of the many other sections, features and links that have always appeared on the ICPAS Web site, including the ICPAS Business Research Library,? Hot Links, Legislative & Political Updates, New & Emerging Professional Issues, Professional Standards/Peer Review, Special Interest Areas and CPE Online.

Whether you are in the midst of a job search or simply looking for the latest in career development information, the Illinois CPA Society?s online Search Services section is a must-surf that?s definitely not to be missed!

Free Job Listings
ICPAS members can access hundreds of current job postings, which touch upon various areas of the accounting profession and different levels of expertise. Listings are compiled from sources throughout Illinois.

Per Diem Pool
ICPAS members can request inclusion on a database of contacts for individuals interested in per diem or part-time work.

Resume Match
ICPAS members can post their r?sum?s on this online database for confidential review by potential employers.

Career Resources
The ICPAS site features accounting career information such as how to become a CPA, accounting resources for students and a student guide to accounting employers. Also, the section includes links to executive search/recruiting firms and job hunting/career development organizations, as well as online job listings, career development/counseling information and salary surveys.

Career Seminars
The Illinois CPA Society conducts several evening seminars throughout the year to assist members in enhancing their job-hunting techniques.? Topics typically covered include r?sum? writing, interviewing skills and networking.

Career Bibliographies
The ICPAS Library offers a wide selection of books, information and resources that address a variety of career-related issues, including the rigors of job hunting, r?sum? writing, interviewing, upward mobility among women professionals and achieving work/life balance.

Major Changes Coming to Governmental Financial Reporting

Major changes in financial reporting are on the horizon for state and local governments. This is due to the recent approval of Statements 33 and 34 by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. GASB Statement 33, Accounting and Financial Reporting for Nonexchange Transactions, changes revenue recognition standards for taxes, contributions, and many other sources of revenue. GASB Statement 34, Basic Financial Statements?and Management?s Discussion and Analysis?for State and Local Governments, provides a new reporting format. This new format will include a management discussion and analysis, government-wide (consolidated) financial statements, major fund statements, and certain required supplementary information and notes. In addition, governmental units will be required to report infrastructure and depreciate all fixed assets.
